pulsar.noun
The closest pulsar is 280 light years away in the constellation of Cetus. A pulsar is a rotating neutron star that sends out pulses of electromagnetic radiation at regular intervals (seconds and fractions of them), except for a pulsar known as PRR-J2144-3933, which emits every 8.5 seconds. A pulsar forms when huge supernova explosions generate highly compact neutron star cores, which are about 6 - 12 kilometers in diameter, and spin faster as they collapse. Some pulsars rotate at an amazingly 600 times a second. Were it not for gravity, pulsars would blow apart.

The pulsar's magnetic field, which is 1 million times stronger than Earth's, and its high velocity (speed) rotation, combine to accelerate electrons. This acceleration leads to the emission of radio waves in a narrow beam which pans across space like a light rotating in a lighthouse does on Earth. Each time the beam sweeps across Earth, astronomers can detect the radio waves.

power
mathematics: the product (the number obtained by multiplying two or more numbers together) of the multiplication of a number by itself; i.e., 4 is the second power of 2 (2x2 {2 to the second power, written 22}), and 32 is the fifth power of 2 (2 to the 5th power, or 25, or 2x2x2x2x2=32); it is cumbersome to write a billion, and easier to write 109. Raising to a power is simply multiplying a number by itself as many times as you wish, and indicating it by the power. It also works negatively, by using division; for example, 1/100 would be written 10-2; that is, 10÷10=1 (1/100th).
